Gaggling

On Springwatch in the last week they talked about birds moulting, and the fact that while those that need to catch prey, or desperately avoid being prey, will moult feathers in a gradual order so that they can remain perfectly airborne. Greylag Geese, on the other hand, moult all of their flight feathers in one go, as they can evade predators by hitting the water; and so this is the result, frantic and splashy gaggling whenever anything threatens, in this case an aggressive swan, in order to get away.

I think the local Canadians are in the same boat... The Dippers, meanwhile, are too busy having to keep the kids fed.

In other news someone appears to have stolen Sunday, that can be the only explanation for it being so close to Monday already. Then again, it's not such a distant possibility given someone also appears to have stolen summer.
