Dad's letters to his Mum

An early departure from Aylesbury meant that we were home by lunchtime.  Really nice to get home.  Although we leave our family in the south, Cumbria is home and it's wonderful to be back. Lovely fine weather here today.

In amongst the photos from yesterday were lots of letters my Dad had written to his mother while he was doing his National Service.  They make fascinating reading about how he was feeling at the point in his life.  Like so many he had found  National Service difficult and it was his first time away from home.  My grandmother's letters to him proved a great comfort.

I particularly like the blue envelope in the centre of the collage which is just after the Queen's Coronation in 1953.
