The Battle of Waterloo
Well we all know the result don't we?
But even so, it was well worth going to watch the re-enactment this morning, and the weather has been great. It took some time to get there, as all we knew from the website was that it was in a field somewhere between Plancenoit & Marensart! There was no indication whatsoever as to where it was and thankfully we didn't cycle as planned - we decided to go on Alan's quad bike, which is great for parking in small spaces.
Anyway we passed lots of people walking in different directions and finally, by luck, came across a traffic jam - so obviously we were going in the right direction. So we parked the quad on a grass verge and walked until we found the field.
The battle was so realistic and we were amazed at how calm the horses were with the canons firing.
We left a bit before the end as we wanted to head into the centre of Waterloo for the arrival of Wellington and his troops.
I chose this photo which was taken just before we left as it shows the battle mid combat.
