Isle of Staffa

What a day?! Struggling to put today into words to be honest. I need a good sit down to process how amazing it has been!

The day started abit grey but calm and it was not long after we left Islay that we got our first sighting. This time of Rissos dolphins (1st extra picture). These elusive, almost ghostly animals are enchanting. The four animals came to check us out briefly but mainly just got with their business and allowed us a glimpse into their world.

We stayed with them a while before heading north again. A basking was spotted shortly after. A quieter period followed but the swell died down further and the sun came out. I climbed the crow nest (terrifying!) and spotted another basker :)

As we approached Staffa and the Treshnish Isles a large and rather stinky minke whale made an appearance (2nd photo). This encounter was cut a little short due to the need for a dramatic rescue. One of the crew had put out a soggy matress on deck to dry (one of the cabins has a leak!) anda gust of wind caught this and it ended up in the drink. And obvuiously ended u alot wetter than previously! We managed to retrieve it but in the process lost track of the minke.

We approached the stunning Staffa (a geologists dream!) and saw an influx of harbour porpoises. Sweeet. And then just as I thought the day was coming to a close another minke popped up in flat calm seas and gorgeous sun.

Once again, our skipper had pulled another fabulous anchorage out of the blue (image #3). This time, the Isle of Lunga. Edd, Robert and I went fishing whilst Liz prepared 5 different types of curry! I went ashore in search of some 'me' time after a crazily good day and was treated to a further 2 basking shark sightings and a minke whale. Wow.

Heaven really seems like a place on earth at the moment.

Check out yesterdays blip for seal pup cuteness please:)
