Weird weather on the Tyne...
...bright and warm, yet also damp and autumnal...
We met Sue & Richard at the market, then walked along the river to the Old Low Light to see an exhibition of Victor Noble Rainbird's work.
He was a local artist who fell on hard times - and drink - after serving in the 1914-18 War. The majority of his work has disappeared - he gave a lot of it away to pay for his drinking debts, so no-one really knows what has been lost. The story of his life was a sad one - such a shame when, on the evidence of the pieces that have survived, he had real talent. The sale of his last two canvasses of Durham afforded him a pauper's funeral.
