Beloved
Same window, different flowers, another fantastic concert. The third in the Four Friday sessions and tonight was Mick Flannery. We caught up with TJ for an al fresco pizza at La Jolie Brize, everyone pretending it was a lot warmer than it was, then off to the church for the gig. Mick Flannery was mesmerising, melancholy with wonderfully droll sense of humour which saved him from being totally maudlin. I had never heard him before and was smitten. This was one of my favourites with the great refrain: I lit the small fire Ma, but I don't know who lit the big one; as quoted by his grandfather, aged 3, who had accidentally burnt down the hay rick! You can see him in the extra.
