Old Bewick

What a wet day!  Never mind - we headed up to Wooler and sampled some wonderful local cheeses, then went into the next door cafe for coffee, bacon sandwiches and border tart!

On the advice of our trusty guidebook, we searched out the tiny Saxon church in Old Bewick.  It is well fortified, with hugely thick walls and narrow slit windows and has lots of 11th century details.  Fascinating to see the "green man" stone carvings on one of the pillars too - see my extra photo.

Home to read and knit then down to the pub for tea!
