Lt. Gov. John Graves Simcoe of Upper Canada

Per yesterday's blipfoto post of a visit to the the Archives of Ontario to see John Graves Simcoe's artifacts, here are some better, clearer photos as a collage that I took today with much better camera.

At upper left is the hilt of his ceremonial sword which is still used at swearings-in for those who now fill his post as Lieutenant Governor some 200 years later. At right is one detail from that sword's blade. A bottom left is his walking stick. It's a slim, malacca cane with a gold ornamental top. It has some maker's marks stamped in it but they are quite worn. I'll investigate anyway to see what I can discover about it. In the middle is the hilt of his sabre.

Extra Photos: Overview shot of Simcoe's swords and his wife's wedding ring. Overview shot of Simcoe's walking stick.
