Bread

Today is St Stephen's Day and the "birthday" of Hungary.

And as of 1949 the day of the New Bread. (Though I bet people celebrated the new harvest lots longer than anything else.)

Nowadays for most people here bread is just a cheap commodity. Well, the ones you can get in supermarkets are. Real bread is made of life (aka wheat), water and a pinch of salt and - most importantly - part of it has been made by someone who might not be around anymore. So yes, it definitely deserves it's own holiday me thinks.
