Joe's Diner

is Chorus Box number 12 in my Blip mission.  It has a portrait of Joe Horvath who opened his diner in the 1960's.  It was a late night institution before the franchise burger places came to New Zealand.  The forester remembers calling in there for a burger in 1970 when he was on hunting trips down this way.  Joe's family closed the business and now a Kiwi Kai Takeaways is in it's place.  They serve hangi, boil-up, fried bread and rewena bread.  Their market is tourists rather than young people looking for a late night meal after the hotel or party.  Times change.  ( this box is on the corner of Devon St and Ranolf St ) Feeling shattered tonight so thank goodness tomorrow is my day off.
