Old School
My mate C is over visiting from Australia and I met up with him for a couple of pints and a catch up outside in George Square Gardens. We had a good reminisce about times past and a chat about our respective lives since we last met, many years ago. I was saying to L this morning that I think C and I had the best understanding on a football pitch that I've ever had with anyone. It was only later that I realised why that was as C and I played what seemed like an endless series of 'two-a-side-two-touch' games after school in the playground against another couple of boys. It was probably only over the course of one year but we played from when we got out at five past four until the janitor kicked us out at five and we were able to play in the dark because of the lights from the school buildings. Just using a tennis ball, rather than a proper football, but all those games fostered a sense of where the other one was going to be that worked well in other games we played with more people. C and I also went away on camping trips when we were at school together. Or rather in the break at the end of exams at the end of the school year. We share an interest in nature and birdwatching in particular. He was telling me about the birds they can see from their place in Queensland. C's partner V joined us later and I took the opportunity to take their picture (lesson learned, after not asking J and A earlier in the month!)
And then I managed to catch up briefly with A in her Photo Booth caravan, having missed her on Saturday. As we were talking some customers arrived, - turned out it was my photographer friends L and J and L's mum, back for another picture in the booth. It was funny watching L and J putting down their DSLR cameras (two each, of course, for working togs) before sorting out their shoot in the caravan. I had to head off to meet L as we had a couple of shows to see in the Forest Fringe in the Drill Hall in Leith, but hopefully I'll have another chance to catch up with A at the booth, and take her picture for another blip.
