Bánh xèo and food poisoning
I drove across town to meet Thuận for lunch again. This time our planned location was closed until the evening so instead we drove to a famous bánh xèo vendor I'd read about. Even though it's quite far from District 1, it was the most touristy place I'd been to for ages. About a quarter of the customers were westerners and there was even an English menu. I saw some tourists arrive holding a guide book, so I'm guessing the restaurant appears in at least one of the popular books. The down side is the prices have increased to at least double what you'd normally pay for the same food. It was pretty good but not worth the extra money.
Afterwards we went to a coffee shop where Thuận used to work and watched as another storm hit. Although it rains heavily most days, the storms are usually brief. I waited for it to calm down and then drove back to my room to do some work.
In the evening I went out to some local street vendors and bought a selection of food to take back to my room so I could watch some live football. A while later I started to feel bloated and then quickly became ill and ended up vomiting during the night. Considering I've been regularly eating street food since leaving the UK in October, I've been lucky that this is only the second or third time I've had proper food poisoning. It's really not much fun though.
