Hazard Reduction

All of a sudden the valley disappeared in a dense smoky haze, which is always a bit of a worry up here in the Blue Mountains, especially given the fire we had not two weeks ago. Today however was a controlled burn - part of a statewide hazard reduction program. Hundreds of acres of undergrowth (in a multitude of fire prone areas) was being thinned out so as not to help fuel major fires during the hot summer months.
