GONE BIRDS

O.K. I knew those “babies”  would be fledging any day.
Not now.

I want one more day.
To watch those daily activities,
The feeding, sleeping, flapping.

I want to hear their high-pitched whistling voices.

Now.
All I see is an empty nest.

I pull my iPhone from my pocket.
Set to panorama,
It captures the wide scene of their nest.
Their world.

I know they’ll be in and out of the nest,
As they learn to fish.

Yet, this really is good-bye.
Maybe we’ll meet again in two years.
When you return to your homeland.

God speed.
Little Osprey.
