Brightening up a dull day
Well I thought the day needed a bit of colour. Here is the top of the church in Cirencester. It is "wool gothic" architechturewise. There are loads of wool churches down here which were part funded by the wool merchants.
Cirencester used to be known as the Roman town of Corinium. The Church apparently holds the Boleyn cup which is silver gilt and was made for Anne Boleyn a year before she was executed.
It is a pretty active church and it is very interesting to look around (lots of crude skulls and crossbones carved into metal plaques and stones). In my opinion you tend to get stopped in your tracks asked to be quiet and stand still kind of thing when you are wandering around it on a Saturday whilst someone does a reading or talks from the front....sadly this has put me off going inside... so I may go in once a year at most I didn't go in today. Having said all this, if you are ever down this way it is worth looking inside though as the building is very very detailed and simply stunning.
