Goosebumps

Today the Vulcan bomber displayed over my home airfield Headcorn Aerodrome. I was honoured to be commentating as she ran in for her display at 300ft accelerating up to 345mph.

It was a goosebumps moment as the iconic Delta-winged bomber throttled up to 90% of her power and I felt the vibration in my chest and a lump in my throat.

I met several former RAF Vulcan engineers and a navigator for the Vulcan today who showed me his log book for the 1970s with bombing practices scrawled into the sortie description. These grown men were reduced to blubbering wrecks today as they watched "the Spirit of Great Britain" perform in the skies above Kent for possibly the very last time.

Around 10,000 people flocked to little old Lashenden Aerodrome today and it was such a great buzz.

Many of my friends displayed in aircraft today including my wonderful former flying instructor Gavin along with talented formation pilot friend Dave (the ex-fireman, ding a ling) and the lovely Jeremy who has been affectionately nicknamed "the Hollywood hunk of Headcorn" by airfield examiner Max.

Jeremy was busily flying Tiger Moth trials today alongside the De Havilland Dragon Rapide, my favourite aircraft and he gets my vote for the best pilot waving of the day!

My throat is so sore after commentating for the third weekend in a row so it's lots of lemon and ginger for me before another day of commentary tomorrow.
