Only in Los Angeles….

Another hot, hot day, another pool in Southern California. Matt and Amy's big back yard is deserted this afternoon. The workers who are building a new pool cabaña behind the pool have gone home and it is too hot even to go out there for a swim! I took this picture through the window.
Granddaughter 2, Claire, is in Iowa visiting the grandparents of one of the three  friends she is traveling with. We get hourly reports on:


The Election: many of the candidates in a ridiculously large field are making an appearance at the Iowa State Fair
The Iowa State Fair: unhealthy fried food, prize livestock, the candidates
A Visit to the Home of John Pappajohn: wealthy venture capitalist, uncle of Claire's friend and donor of an art museum in Des Moines and a tour of the Pappajohn home which also looks like an art museum.
A trip to ''The Lake': Involving ski boats and water sports. I wonder if they have a giant floating flamingo?

We went out for a nice lunch with lots of beer tasters, and now we (five humans, three canines) are all strewn about the family room either sleeping or thinking about it….
