Vaguely Marvellous

Day 8 - 68 km Fougères to Tintèniac

Our longest day of riding, but I really enjoyed it. The rest day meant we had good strong legs, and we needed them! First we had to do a few kilometres detour to find bread, and then we thought we had found a cycle path along a river through a forest, but it turned out to be a walking track, and thoroughly unsuitable for our touring bikes and all their luggage! Marc and Dicon pretty much had to push me and Leila out of a ravine.

After the fun and frolics of getting out, we stopped at Gahard for lunch, in the shadow of a Norman church. And then we found a beautiful canal path, which took us all the way to Tintèniac.  Dicon made us do yet another unecessary hill. We found the campsite we were looking for but we didn't like it, so we pushed on to the municipal campsite.

Municipal campsites away from the coast are amazing: really cheap, basic but usually with great showers, quiet, and no need to book. This one was right next to the river - that's what this picture's of, pretty much the only one I took. We played cards on a bench next to the river until we got cold and went to bed.
