A beautiful day around Dornoch
What a wonderful day. Found out that Bus id CAN be used on Easyjet confirmed with phone call. So my Mum and Dad will still be coming up !
Sunny start and a deer in the field lit by the sunlit. Went to Dornoch and picked up some lunch from Harry Gows. A wander round the town in the warmth of the sun looking in some of the lovely shops and the Cathedral. I bought a little carved wooden Cathedral mouse and a little cross with a nice poem, possible blips for the future :)
Had a look at the sea and just abit of sand remaining as the tide was coming in. Plenty of people making their way to the beach with buckets and spades and blow up boats.
A drive along the side of Loch Fleet and there were lots of birds and a few seals around. The Eider ducks were doing their Frankie Howerd impression.
Over to The mound carpark where this photo was taken. The heather is really starting to come out. We walked under the bridge and watched hundreds of fish jumping, not sure what they were, small and black.
At Ferry Point we walked along the sand dunes and had our lunch. Plenty of butterflies around including the very vivid Common blue butterflies, both male and female, possible small heath or Scotch Argus( will need to check) and several others that were too fast to see properly.
Had a wonderful walk looking at the birds, plants and other wildlife. We ended up at the beach and I even had a paddle in the refreshing water.
Back to Dornoch for an Icecream and then Fish and chips from Alness that we ate looking at views over Glen Glass.
We had a quick walk down to Black Rock Gorge, an amazing place where the water has carved 'deep and narrow cleft in the old red sandstone conglomerate ' ' a few hundred metres in length and 36 metres in height '
In 2004 filming for Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire was filmed in the area and the gorge is the setting in one of the scenes.
Hoping the sky remains clear for meteor watching tonight , abit too cloudy last night and it was cold.
