What a lovely day:-

to See 6 or 7 Kingdoms

My friend Rick and I had just taken the Snaefell Mountain Railway up from Laxey to the summit of the mountain, seen here.

This is a rack railway and the very pleasant journey takes about half an hour.  As putative pensioners we were able to travel at half price. The train stopped momentarily so that we could admire the view of the Lady Isabella Laxey waterwheel.

After climbing a short distance we were able to stand by the summit trig point at 2034 feet.

There one is able to contemplate views of, let us say, seven kingdoms.

These are the Kingdoms of: Mann, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales.  Some would say that the ancient diocese of Sodor (a Norwegian Diocese and which means the Southern Isles of the Hebrides and Mann) should also be included.

Where is the final Kingdom, I hear you ask?  That of course is the Kingdom of Heaven.

That said we enjoyed a splendid downhill walk to Laxey and to ensure that  we had descended the full altitude you will be pleased to hear that our boots were dipped in the sea.
