Micklegate Bar, York

We met family in York for tea and I took this shot of Micklegate Bar in the evening sunshine. York has four main medieval gates and Micklegate was the most important. It used to be the main entrance to York for people arriving from the South and historically, when a reigning monarch passed through, they had to stop and ask for the Lord Mayor's permission to enter the city.
