Settle-Carlisle railway

This was a treat from Vivien for my birthday (which was back in June) - a steam train journey on the Settle Carlisle railway.

The train started diesel hauled at York in the morning, but already with the 1930s first class coaches (sprung seats, luxury) - then this engine (LMS Jubilee class 4-6-0 5690 'Leander') joined as at Hellifiled to take us from Settle to Carlisle (which is where I took this picture).

The smell and the noise of a steam engine, stunning scenery, and old-world first class service (sandwiches, scones and seating) - splendid.

What a fantastic day out. Thank You!
