Looking Skywards
I stayed up late in order to see the Perseid meteor shower, as the rainy weather for Thursday and Friday might spoil the view later in the week. I did see a few little needles of light streak across the sky, but blink and you could miss them because each tiny bit of comet rubble burns up very quickly. Never mind, though, as there are about 50 or so an hour showering down through the Earth's atmosphere at the moment.
Here's a shot of the sky about 50 minutes before sundown, which I thought was both moody and beautiful in its own way. Fortunately the clouds cleared after dark for a good view of the meteor shower.
