Brickmaking
Just before we returned from Malawi, in early June we bought a piece of land (23 acres) by lending about 2000 Euro to a group of 23 women and three men, for a model, commercial, co-operative farm. The project has the support of all nine chiefs and the Ministry for Agriculture.
Their first job was to clear the land and then to start molding bricks, some to sell for an income and others for the construction of a small house and sheds.
Looks like they are up to speed.
This shows the clay bricks laid out to dry, while some are covered with grass.
They will be air dried stacked in a kiln covered with clay and then fired using tree trunks. Its a big job but it gives an income.
