A day in the life of Ash

By ashcarrighan

FINALLY!

Finally I can say I feel like a Donor Carer and part of the team. Not only was today the day we needled real life people, but it was also the day we got our super duper name badges!

It was quite nice actually, Farnworth was the first session that we came out with the team, and it was also the first day we did venepuncture on donors. After having a mental breakdown watching my other two musketeers perfectly do their needles, I finally sorted myself out after a pep talk from one of the nurses and a swift slap round the face (not really but it would have been nicer than what he said haha) from one of my favourite people bursting into the girls toilets. I finally decided to just grit my teeth and get on with it, and I did it!!!! Straight into the vein no problems. I felt like jelly afterwards but everyone clapped for us including the donors which was so rewarding and the lady said she didn't feel a thing which was even better. I really felt like part of the team today and I'm really proud of the three of us.

I put 14 needles in in total today, including 4 deep veins and 2 sideways veins. So to celebrate I took a photo of my first needle-cap necklace. The first day I went on session with this team, my favourite made me one of these and said I'd make my own one day, look at me now! He even said he was proud of me which was really nice, plus he said he'll buy me a drink on Friday so bonus points hehe!

Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good, we'll see what the day brings!
