L92 at Rolvenden yard

Signalbox duty at Wittersham Road today and what an interesting day it was. I was apprehensive about the day as there's been several line side fires over the past few weeks and I was expecting to change the usual workings to accommodate late running to avoid trains having to restart on a bank adjacent to an arable field.

There was an interesting start to the day when we had to run a special train to examine the line following a report of a dropped joint . This was the first time I'd had to carry out this working. All went well.

Another unusual move happened on the first up train which I had to stop on the through road so that a permanent way worker could clamber aboard with his tools to repair the dropped joint.

Then the next up train had to be brought in first, the reverse of the usual practice, something I've only a few times before. Fortunately it all went well. The last working went through as usual, so it made for a relaxed end of the day.

At the end of the day, visiting loco L92, a London Underground engine was simmering in the yard after an apparently untroubled day's service. At least it didn't set off any fires today.
