Venice on the Front Line

The 'Venice of Mallorca' as Cala Figuera is reputed to be and it's easy to see why with a little imagination. This idyllic veneer though stretches only so far - one or two streets back from the tourist front line it's a tougher bleaker picture: many shut down business enterprises, half finished buildings and empty vandalised apartment blocks. Incongruously spread amidst these are flourishing villas with beautifully kept gardens and pools.
