Genko
Genko is one of the transmitted teachers at Dharma Rain Zen Center, a Buddhist community Sue has been associated with since the late 80s. At a fund raiser yesterday afternoon, Genko talked with me about their prison projects. She meditates with prisoners, male and female, several days a week. As prisoners are released, Genko and others at the zen center offer meditation, mentoring, and a support group to help former prisoners adjust to the complexities and difficulties of life in the so-called “free world.” Her quiet energy, solidity, and gentle wisdom must be very grounding for people going through those very dramatic transitions.
If you have fifty-three minutes available to hear Genko talk about endurance and patience, here’s a link. I love what she has to say there, and the quietly self-assured, ego-less way she says it is pretty much who and how she is.
