Wooden Glider

The Slingsby T.21 is an open-cockpit, side-by-side two-seat glider, built by Slingsby Sailplanes Ltd and first flown in 1944. It was widely used by the RAF Air Cadets and by civilian gliding clubs, and is still a very popular machine.

This one is getting ready for a winch launch. It's been a lovely day here at the Gliding Club and lots of tasks undertaken. Some people were not able to get back to base though and landed out so retrieval crews were needed to rescue them - some will miss dinner tonight I fear!

Fiona and I went on a Damsel and Dragon hunt at the pools over on the Stiperstones. We saw a few but it was a tad windy and they just wouldn't sit still. We had a very enjoyable walk though, and lunch outside in the sunshine at The Bog Visitor Centre. Whilst we were there Fiona had a call from her partner to say that he had landed out and asked her to go rescue him from a field, luckily not too far away, so we had to make our way back to the Club to collect the Glider trailer for her to go and fetch him, which she bravely did and I'm glad to say that the retrieve went perfectly and they were both back in time for dinner!!
