Stow

I came in search of olde England and have not been disappointed. Lovely villages and twee cafes. Ladies who lunch much in evidence.

This is Stow - on - the - Wold, and the main street at that. There are prettier villages, but few whose name evokes rural England in quite the same way.

Stow's main square was the site of a mass slaughter of royalists in the English Civil War. Hard to imagine that amidst today's cream tea set.
