Catch of the Day

We headed south this morning, leaving behind the Washington warmth and sunshine as we meandered down the foggy coast of Oregon. Our final destination was the town of Newport which claims to be "the Dungeness crab capital of the world". (I have yet to research the veracity of this claim). The old waterfront was bustling with fishing boats, crab pots, and barking sea lions all enveloped by the pungent smell of fish. Trendy seafood restaurants sat beside "dive bars", and the energy of tourists mixed seamlessly with the steady hum of fishermen at work.

The EXTRA photo at right shows a sunnier coastal view further north.
