Common rustic
I have been moth trapping every night, and have caught some really lovely moths, but August is a bit of a dull month moth trapping wise, the lull after the excitement of high summer, before the mellow fruitfulness of the autumnal beauties!
This little moth the Common rustic agg is actually a complex combination of 3 different species, which can only be reliably separated by genitalia dissection. It comes in many guises from sooty black specimens with a white kidney mark through to some beautifully coloured and marked forms.
I think over the last 5 weeks or so I must have caught every possible colour combination there is, but this one from last night is especially beautiful, and really worth sharing.
Can't wait to share the autumnal moths , but don't want my holiday over either..... ambivalence rules I feel!
