Festival of Games

An unexpected delight at the town of Parthenay, to discover this unusual festival in full swing.  The usual tourist blurb and hyperbole about this had made us expect a rather shambolic event and were ready to sneer, in the classic British way.  However it was fabulous to see the streets full of people, both adults and children, playing games. Tables were set up with games, many of which we had never seen before, and there were animators in faintly ludicrous costumes revving up the excitement.  Whilst I believe there was a gaming area, it was still great to see the joy in old school pursuits.
I have no idea what this game was ; initially we thought it was a funky chess set, but it wasn't!
