Timing

Seemingly on a spit of land to the left of this shot is the distinctive silhouette of a Martello tower; this is number 64. It was built as part of a chain of towers to keep out the French under Napoleon. There were five in this area originally and  there is a piquant irony in that because this is Pevensey Bay and it is where another Frenchman, William the Bastard, landed in 1066. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but just consider how different our world might be if we'd had the Martellos built 900 years earlier.

Cal and I had a picnic on the beach here and then moved on to Pett Level where we had a sit on the beach and enjoyed the sun. Well I did - Cal was wearing a long-sleeved tee-shirt and jeans while I was in shorts and a short-sleeved tee. People were swimming in the sea so Calum unzipped his fleece........
