Mystery Cortina

Revealed during draining of model boating pond at the Heath. I'd read about it in the local paper and decided to go along to take a look for myself.

Apparently fishermen have long been claiming that there was a car in the pond and also suggest that there's another buried in the silt. Estimates of how long it's been there vary between 25-40 years. Perhaps it was stolen and rolled down the slope into the pond by joyriders. I wonder if there's anyone seeing these pictures and saying "Hey, that was my car!" or whether there's anyone saying to themselves "I remember the day we pushed that in there!" There's something vaguely sinister about it. Will its secret ever be revealed?
Amusing that some reports describe it as 'vintage'. Can't imagine there'll be a rush of people wanting to restore it though.  Might have been a different matter if it had been something really rare and desirable...
