Cross Quarter Day

An unexpectedly exciting and delightful day. First of all the sun shone! We pootled around in the morning then headed over to Rossbrin to do a walk with our pals R&F around their neck of the woods. Teeny roads, high hedgerows, old mines, ancient graveyards, enticing derelict farms. Then back for an early supper - warm enough to eat al fresco and admire their astonishing view down into Roaringwater Bay. It's Calves Week in nearby Schull and loads of boats were out racing amongst the islands. Then into Ballydehob for an art opening in a tiny house down by the estuary. Four of the artists were in situ and each did a talk about the processes involved in their artwork - stainded glass, metalwork, etching and chairs made from greewood trees.
As if this wasn't enough we then zoomed over to catch the sunset at Dereenaclough where there is a very impressive and enigmatic stone covered in rock art. It's a cross quarter day - half way between the Solstice and Equinox and we wanted to see if anything might be illuminated. The sun vanished and we were eaten alive by midges but the stone was impressive nonethless.
