The Eagle House
A visit to Painswick Rocco Garden.
A stroll back in time t o a sensual early 18th century.
The kitchen garden was first mentioned in 1757.
It has now been restored and and grows a range of heritage fruit and vegetables to give visitors an insight into the crops that were most popular 250 years ago.
Used in the cafe and the house.
For lunch we had the most delicious courgette, pea, and coriander soup, with a hint of chilli.
The photo is of one of the Follys in the garden.
Thought to be called The Eagle House, because it perches like an eyrie, and gives an eagle's eye view of the garden.
After being hidden by ivy, this folly was brought back to its original condition, with help of a generous donation from the Port Royal Foundation in. USA, and support from English Heritage.
We certainly enjoyed a walk round the grounds.
A superb view from the top of the woods, over the Painswick valley.
Now back at C's and relaxing in the garden.
Vey hot in the sun!
Qiuiz night tonight at the local pub.
We have all told her we are no good at quizzes!
So don't expect us to win!
(See map for location of the garden.)
