Abandoned

Last spring, over a period of 3 weeks, a bird laid 3 eggs in a nest just outside a bedroom window, then never came back to sit on them. I have no idea why she abandoned them and never saw a bird near the nest at any stage.

I decided today it was time to clean out the nest and hopefully it will be reused this spring.

This egg was the only one left unbroken after all this time and is very fragile and a bit grubby. A good subject with which to practice with the new macro lens though.
