Pockets and flats.
Another micro-adventure on the Usk tonight trying to get a bit better at fishing what's known as pocket water. These are the various bits of slack water and food channels between large rocks that hold fish when a river such as the Usk is low. The idea is that in these rough bits the trout have less time to inspect your offering than on a perfectly flat pool and so will take things that are not perfect imitations.
That said, it's bloody difficult to do when fishing dry fly. I got one trout to rise and take the fly but missed it on the strike.
