Between fen and mountains

Saint-Flour

We decided to take our return to the south slowly and stopped at Saint-Flour in the Auvergne. It was more interesting than I remembered with shops that have long since disappeared elsewhere. I saw a cobbler, dressmaker and drapers but the milliners had shut down. The granite cathedral is impressive but austere. We did find a little exhibition about Eiffel's construction of the Viaduc de Garabit with a video to while away a pleasant half an hour.
