Holly Blue Butterfly
I was sat in the garden this afternoon enjoying a few moments of sunshine desperately trying to think of what I could offer as a blip today when literally "out of blue" this lovely butterfly landed on a Corkscrew Hazel tree just a short distance from me. It was even good enough to hang around while I nipped indoors for my camera. Looking at Wikipedia, it tells me that this is a female Holly Blue and in Spring, they lay their eggs on Holly and in summer, they are laid on Ivy. Coincidentally, the Corkscrew Hazel has a sprig of Ivy growing up through it, so it really was spoiled for choice! Generally speaking, it is only seen in the Southern half of the British Isle on a line between Cumberland in the West and Co. Durham in the East!
