Looking towards Pilsden Pen
The view of the vale in Somerset with Pilsden Pen in the background (the hill with a sharp angle). The second highest point in Dorset standing at 277 metres high and topped with an Iron Age fort has been an interesting site for archaeologists who have found flint tools, Bronze Age burial mounds and the remains of 14 round houses. William and Dorothy Wordsworth used to frequent this area and take frequent walks to the top of the hill.
The first highest point in Dorset standing at 279 metres is nearby Lewesdon Hill (just out of the picture on the left). Here too is an Iron Age hill fort. These hills are at the north of the Marshwood Vale which runs down to the Jurassic Coast.
