working on the lace

Queen Anne's Lace has always fascinated me.
The bloom starts out as a green ball of stems that looks vaguely like a bird's nest.
Then it opens up to a flat disc with green shoots sticking out around the edges.
And finally it transforms into a beautiful white canopy, with a small red drop in the middle. As a child I was told that the red was a drop of Queen Anne's blood as she pricked herself tatting the lace.
But I'm sure this bee just sees the flower as its daily grind!
