Millhouse, Lyness

This morning we leave this little haven of tranquility at Lyness in Hoy for the mad bustle of Stromness on the Orkney mainland.
I'm not sure I have the internal resources to live on Hoy, where the only shop ( I may stand corrected by Iain at Creel) is at Longhope, at the very south of the island and the newspapers only arrive mid afternoon. However, the pace of life and the communication with nature in all its facets could well win me over if I could stay longer and shift down a gear or two.

And so it is a ferry this morning back to Houton, and on to Stromness for the rest of the holiday.
With no wind, the sea was flat mirrored calm, a silver blue under a summer sky hung with cotton wool clouds, and sunshine playing on the colour of a patchwork of fields from the lightest green and yellow to brown and dark green.
In the distance, Stromness, appearing, as George Mackay Brown described it, a tumble of houses from hill to water.
It is so good to be back in this place.
