Today we held a First Aid Training Day. Richard Holmes, the trainer, and I have been working on how best to deliver training that is targeted at first aid on the hills. A lot of it has to do with how to manage an incident, including how to make the place where you are visible to a rescue helicopter. (Empty wine bags come into it!)
We did no bandaging but tried out the Cas straps we have purchased for the first aid kits. Injury management is much simpler and more logical for us than it was, but there is a lot to do if you want to successfully manage an accident during a walk.
We had a bit of fun with these armless and legless models, but also learned carefully the techniques of CPR.
We were indoors during the sunniest, warmest day of the week and we were too cold for comfort!
Part way through the day we were asked to help with a very elderly man who had wandered across the road from his home to the Community Centre, thinking there was a meeting. He had not been out for months and I think his carer had gone out. Jean and I managed to return him home and he was happy to be back there.
I'm very tired after yesterday's walk and today's training. Early night perhaps?
