Stanley

The town of Stanley in the Falkland Islands was named by my great-great-grandfather, then Lt Richard Clement Moody of the Royal Engineers. It was named after Lord Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby and Secretary of State of War and the Colonies at the time (1845).

30 years ago the brief occupation by Argentina ended.

I've kept this campaign map since acquiring it later in '82 when I worked there for 6 months for BFBS: I've now passed it on to my colleague Jon who will be guiding some battlefield tours for the Parachute Regiment quite soon. I wish I could go with him to revisit a wonderful place, which is home to some really wonderful people. I suspect there'll be a good party today.
