Evening light over the canal beside Ebley Mill

I left this evening's meeting of the canal consultative committee early.  It was held at Stroud District council's offices at Ebley Mill beside the Stroudwater Canal. The committee links all the interested parties and councils which adjoin the canal, which are concerned with the ongoing regeneration from Stroud as far as Saul Junction, where it joins the Sharpness canal.

This view from the towpath looks east towards Stroud.  All the buildings in the scene, except for the Cotswold stone mill buildings on the right beyond the bridge, are new.  The disused canal had been infilled and was the car park for the Council offices in the mill building next to the tall chimney.  All this regeneration has happened within the last three years.

While standing here to take the picture I was pleased to hear the incessant chattering of the baby housemartins in the eaves of the new houses in the right foreground, with the sky full of their parents gathering insect food in the air before flying back up to the nests.  I have added a picture of them in today's 'Extra photos'.

I am off to bed as it is very late now.  Night, night.
