Pulteney weir.
Visiting Bath overnight for a visit to Mum and Dad and also for some dental work, we wandered into the city this morning for some light shopping (new school clothes for H) and a chance to take a photo.
Pulteney weir is shown on the earliest maps of Bath (1603), designed to provide a difference in water level and hence drive the water wheels used to power the mills. In the early 1970's, the weir was rebuilt in its current V shape - and with an associated flood control gate (sluice) - to reduce the chances of flooding of the city.
It is one of the most photographed landmarks of Bath.
