What Goes Round Comes Around .

This is not a blip of astonishing beauty.It is however, a peek at history and reality .Manchester doesn't have an underground. Plans for such were squashed years ago in Westminster. At this moment the city is going through an upheaval as engineers work their way around creating new Metrolinks ( jargon for modern trams) Eventually it will be a car free city where trams bikes and pedestrians rule .
In Balloon Street work on new lines is progressing well , rain or shine.( today a bit of both) I was told it should be complete by the end of the year.Cross Street looked chaotic due to the road being torn up. Under this you can see old tram rails.
( 3 pictures on the R )Workmen are so helpful and told me these were the old rails & are , where possible, being saved to create a track in a park for old trams. He also told me that even lower down were the very 1st tram lines and cobbles.Dating back to the days of horse drawn trams
a) first trams in the 19th century horsedrawn
b)In the 20th century trams were gradually electrified
c) Manchester's last tram was in 1949
d) Buses took over until 1992 when Metrolink brought trams
back to Manchester.
Full marks to the bus drivers of Manchester who have to contend with this each day ..
