Living in history
Did well this morning-set off early and managed to catch the ferry on the tail end of the 24hour ticket from yesterday, as well as getting one that went from the Lido right up the grand canal. Beautiful views and once again glorious weather.
Wove through the tiny streets first to visit the outdoor veg and fish markets (see extra-look at the size of those tomatoes!) then to find these stairs-called The Grand Snail Staircase apparently-built on the outside of a modest house in 1499 apparently. Got a bit lost looking for a paper shop that wasn't what we hoped, but did manage to find the shop where they sell the bird and fish wire sculptures we bought last time we were here.
By the time we wanted ice cream the streets were heaving and it was just too hot and busy so we headed home and had a lie down before reading on the beach for a while, then headed out for dinner. Awful to hear the weather forecasts from home....sounds grim!
